BMTI CERTIFICATE II - BICYCLE MECHANICAL TECHNOLOGY
Ever thought of working in a bike shop or owning a bike empire? I'm sure most of us have at some stage in life, just like you dream that you can win Rampage (given the right weather conditions of course!).
I just wanted to fix my own bike without leaving parts on the bench and wondering who else's bike they belonged to. So I had this stupid idea of leaving the warm weather of Exmouth to go to the hills of Penrith, Sydney, in the middle of winter. The course I had booked on to was an 8 day course in Bicycle Mechanical Technology. In other words , a bike mechanic.
On first impressions, the workshop setup was incredible. All the tools available on hand that your wife would never let you buy! It was Parktool heaven. Having done a lot of home mechanics, didn't prepare me for how comprehensive the course was going to be. Our instructor, Ben, was extremely thorough in his explanations and demonstrations and the brain overload meant that the days flew by without realising how much, or how little, you actually knew beforehand.
There were opportunities to learn about your own bike as well as a variety of others, and a few evening rides didn't go astray. Especially running a downhill trail for the first time in the dark was a bit of a blast.
Overall, for anyone wanting to venture in this direction, it was one of the best courses I've done. Maybe Daz's business might grow and he can take on some young apprentices (hit him up kids). Any enquires, talk to Ben or Kevin at BMTI: firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 1300 257 827
